Whereabouts of the locomotives of the steam locomotive Class 52

After the war, the locomotives were taken over by the respective railway administrations. In addition, they proved 52 Series locomotives to be robust and did their job until the 1980s. Some of the remaining units on Soviet territory were redirected. Other machines remained in the border areas as a strategic reserve.

Received and operational units (secured, as of 2014)

Steam locomotives Ty2-911 and Ty2-953 are used as museum trains in Poland. The steam locomotive 555.0153 has been in service in the Czech Republic since 2002 in front of museum trains. Twenty steam locomotives of the original series are preserved in Germany. Of these, five locomotives are operational. The 52.80 series are the most common units. These steam locomotives, introduced from 1957, are so-called reconstruction locomotives (reconstruction locomotive). These steam locomotives of the DRB Class 52 are heavily revised and equipped with new boilers.

Note to the steam locomotive DRB Class 52:

War locomotives or military service locomotives KDL) had their use in the war. A special value was on

» Simple examinations under difficult conditions,
» Use in extreme weather conditions,
» Fast and cost-effective production in large quantities,
» Use of a few raw materials,

placed.

For steam locomotive DRB CLass 52, fuel consumption and service life are less important. These locomotives are designed for a service life of six to ten years.
